Originally a 1920’s duplex, this Silverlake home
was remodeled and converted by a contractor into
a single family residence. Working with the homeowners
to personalize the space, we transformed a lackluster
reno into a stylish family-friendly retreat.
Because the home sits at the back of the deep lot,
we borrowed from the ample front yard to create an
area perfect for outdoor entertaining. The unused
garage became a recording studio and office specifically
designed for the client, a composer and music producer.
In the kitchen, foil melamine cabinets and pitted
travertine counters were traded for a sleeker, modern
look with high-gloss cabinetry and sparkling quartz
counters.
Ecologically sensitive materials such as cork flooring,
quartz countertops, FLOR carpet tiles, renewable
cabinetry, and low-VOC paints were selected keeping
both the environment and indoor air quality in mind.
Natural fibers like seagrass and jute come together
with restored vintage pieces, bright airy colors,
and a touch of glamour to create a chic, bohemian
nest perfect for a young family.
