This 1940’s Southern California ranch house had undergone an awkward remodel
and addition in the late 80’s, so we looked to the house’s original details
to update the home while still maintaining its traditional roots. Lath
and plaster walls, beautiful arched doorways and coved ceilings, original
double hung windows, and original oak floors inspired the choices of timeless
materials and finishes.
In the kitchen, traditional white shaker style doors and molding revitalize
the cabinets, while the carrera marble mosaic backsplash adds detail and
sophistication. Through reuse and restoration, the cabinetry and cast iron
tub of the guest bathroom were restored, while new yet vintage style subway
and hex tiles combine with classic fixtures, new lighting, and a traditional
pivot mirror to rejuvenate the bathroom. The dated surfaces and fixtures
of the 80’s master bath were replaced with elegant carrera marble, classic
white subway tiles, timeless nickel fixtures, and plenty of white trim
and molding, unifying the newer addition with the original parts of the
home, while new hand-selected oak flooring joins the meticulously refinished
and matched original white oak floors, bringing an overall harmony to the
home.
Stylish yet classic, elegant yet timeless, the finishes and fixtures of
this Valley renovation play up the original details of the home and create
a modern, fresh atmosphere that pays homage to the panache of the past.
